The Local Government Association has found that BwD Council acted unprofessionally in its handling of the recent call-in over the Reel Cinema.
The call-in was requested by the Conservatives to thoroughly scrutinise Labour's decision to extend the lease on the Reel Cinema by 5 years. Labour have already wasted millions of pounds of taxpayer money on the project that, if successful, will likely only achieve putting the existing Vue cinema out of business.
However, when the Council failed to provide the necessary information requested by the Conservatives in enough time to allow it to be examined and failed to appropriately answer some of the questions posed, the Conservatives pulled the plug on the call-in procedure.
At the time Labour councillors were scathing and heavily criticised the Conservatives for not attending the call-in. Now the LGA have found that it was the Council who acted unprofessionally, not the Conservatives.
Labour owe us and the BwD public an apology but we won't hold our breath.
