Darwen is to receive £25m in government funding as part of a scheme to regenerate towns with a proud industrial and economic heritage that have seen their traditional industries decline.

Local businesses, communities and local leaders will now draw up plans to boost economic growth in Darwen.

The scheme marks the fulfilment of a pledge by Boris Johnson to invest in boosting growth in 100 towns across the country and is part of a £3.6bn Towns Fund..Nelson has also been awarded £25m as part of the scheme and it can be no coincidence that both Darwen and Nelson have Conservative MP's working hard to secure investment from the government.
