BLACKBURN NEEDS YOU — IT'S TIME TO TAKE OUR TOWN BACK

We Need You.!

Blackburn is a town built on hard work, determination, enterprise, and community spirit. Generations before us built its industries, raised families, supported their neighbours, and created a proud Lancashire town.

That spirit has never disappeared, but it is time to ask a difficult question.

Is Blackburn getting the leadership, accountability, and ambition it deserves?

For too long, residents have been expected to accept the same political leadership, the same excuses and promises that tomorrow will somehow be better.

At Blackburn Conservatives, we believe our town deserves more and we believe the people of Blackburn have the power to demand it.

A £15 Million Warning Sign for Blackburn

In October 2026, the Lancashire Telegraph reported that Blackburn with Darwen Council was facing a financial black hole of approximately £15 million as costs continued to rise to £30 million if services aren’t cut.

The council's own budget discussions confirm the difficult choices ahead, with officers tasked with identifying savings, reviewing fees and charges for the coming financial year, but after years of Labour leadership in Blackburn, residents are entitled to ask some serious questions.

How did we reach this position? What action is being taken? Which services might be affected? Will local taxpayers be expected to pay more?

We believe financial accountability cannot simply mean announcing difficult decisions after they have already been made. Blackburn deserves transparency, responsible spending, and value for every pound of taxpayer’s money, YOUR MONEY!

Council Tax — What Will the Future Cost?

There is another major question hanging over Blackburn. The future of local government in Lancashire.

The Labour Government's proposed reorganisation would have seen Blackburn with Darwen absorbed into a much larger East Lancashire authority.

But after announcing its preferred structure in July, pausing it in September, and formally withdrawing that decision in October, the Government has returned to considering the options.

Meanwhile, fundamental questions remain unanswered.

What would happen to existing council debts and liabilities? How would council tax be harmonised between different areas? Would Blackburn households face increased bills? How would local democratic representation be protected?

REMEMBER: The Labour Government initiated local government reorganisation without giving Blackburn residents a direct referendum on whether they wanted their council reorganised.

We believe residents deserve clear answers before irreversible decisions are made.

Nationally, Labour Is Failing to Deliver the Change Britain Needs

The concerns facing Blackburn reflect wider challenges across Britain.

Labour entered government promising change, economic stability, and improved living standards. Yet the independent Office for Budget Responsibility's October 2026 forecasts paint a troubling picture. Economic growth is projected to slow to just 1% in 2027. Inflation is forecast at 3.5%, while the national tax burden is expected to reach a record high in 2027–28.

Income tax thresholds remain frozen, meaning that rising wages can push working people into paying more tax even when they are not better off in real terms.

Families are facing pressure on their finances, businesses are dealing with rising costs, and the Government continues to borrowing more to cover spending on the welfare system.

Responding to Labour's October Budget, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch challenged the Government's failure to confront the problems the UK faces with sufficient ambition, calling its approach insufficiently strong or bold.

Britain needs a credible plan to restore economic confidence, encourage enterprise, control public spending, and reward hard work. Blackburn needs that same determination locally.

A New Chapter for Blackburn

There are already signs that Blackburn is ready for political change.

In May 2026, Labour lost its overall majority on Blackburn with Darwen Council after fifteen years of majority control. Although Labour continues to lead a minority administration, voters have demonstrated that the political landscape is changing, but change must mean more than replacing one set of politicians with another.

It must mean higher standards, greater accountability, better services, and a council that treats taxpayer`s money with respect.

Blackburn Conservatives are committed to rebuilding trust, listening to residents and presenting a credible alternative based on responsibility, opportunity, and local pride.

We know that trust must be earned. We know that residents want practical solutions, not simply political arguments and we know that our town's future is far too important to leave to complacency.

Blackburn, We Need You.

Blackburn Conservatives are determined to play their part in rebuilding confidence locally. We want to see a Blackburn that rewards ambition, respects its heritage, supports its communities, and offers real opportunity to future generations.

Our town has a proud past, together we can demand a better future. Stand up for your community, demand accountability, and help us shape what comes next.
